Got my old core 2 duo to work.
My daily job involves designing and editing files using Adobe after effects, photoshop, figma etc.
Started looking into NAS options for easier access for my data storage.
Figured that smb is mostly used in order to store and retrieve for the same for most of the machines, my current daily drive is windows so would be using that.
The major problem is reconnecting hdd again n again as I don’t have a laptop right now which is a major pain when getting off the desk and taking the laptop with you.
I did have a intel core 2 duo from 2009 which is my first computer in life. Never thought that this would come in play now. The major happy part for me that it has x86 unlike my arm , so when read the hardware requirements for different nas options like truenas, openmediavault, mostly required x86 so that was a tick.
Another major constraint was the ram part :
Node specs :
- CPU : Intel core 2 duo
- RAM : 2GB :(
- HDD : 2TB
- SSD : 256G Crucial
- PSU : 65-95w
Firstly went with true nas core , as that had many inbuilt options and my requirements were quite simple :
This was the time when I just figured out what VENTOY is. Got the memory size issue where it warned that 2gb is less than minimum went ahead with that.
Flashed the system. It was a success. Got the webui:
So went to the browser ip, it was up:
The major issue : I didn’t know what zfs is so had to format the whole drive, saw what zfs, redundancy, zpool n all is.
Ofcourse went with the stripe option as had only one drive, with no backups. Now at this point hadn’t discovered the chmod option so was getting permission denied, for which figured to solve with acl’s, that didn’t work out so manually did chmod -R for my old data.

Did alot of research for how to have I had all my media files with
