Linux#

Started using i3wm in linux , got it installed on plain debian, had the whole thing setup starting with configuring all the files manually, I had 3 displays so learning i3 was a great switch. It was my first introduction to the tiling manager, now after using it for past few years if I see someone not using tiles it just feels out of place for using mouse to click and drag.

Tried different menu bars none seem to work, required alot of configuration. So was just using plain i3-status . First thing I did in i3wm was the keybindings for default ones : Changed the basic nav to : $mod + h,j,k,l : left, down, up, right : Basically vim based keybindings.

Figured that sway on wayland uses that by default unlike x11. Now faced a great nvidia issue : I was running this on ryzen9 5700x with geforce 3070ti, so had to figure something out. Saw all the helpful blogs regarding screen tearing issue, there was always a lack of smoothness that it had in windows. So for sometime decided to go back to windows as started having a requirement for adobe softwares after effects n photoshop.

Now at this point couldn’t use mouse when coming back from i3, so started looking at i3 options : Got the GlazeWM . This was also interesting, but spent most of the time in having the i3 features in it like major stacking one, where windows can be stacked with a great indicator, but that wasn’t feasible, also was facing alot of tile bugs for which wrote here : Tiling Issue Ofcourse got solved in 2024, but had to move on with work so integrated my server with most of the things required.

Now was the time to move from home so had a macbook, now again the time to change, at this point was looking at different tiling options : Rectangle Amatheyst Aerospace . All kind of failed for my expectations. Finally ended up with yabai a great boon , got it setup with skhd .

Still using that right now, have them uploaded here . Showcasing my local host setup.
